Traditional material processing methods

Humanity has been refining material processing technologies for thousands of years. Although computer numerical control (CNC) machines are widely used in modern industry, traditional machining methods remain an important part of the manufacturing process. These methods form the foundation of many modern technologies and are used to produce a wide variety of components and structures.

Traditional material processing methods include turning using universal, conventional, and specialized lathes; milling with dividing-head milling machines, universal, wide-universal knee-type and bed-type milling machines, vertical turret lathes and drum machines; cutting materials with guillotines, water jets, lasers, plasma cutters, and band saws; as well as laser welding.
